Is Crumbl Cookies shutting down?
No. Crumbl is not going out of business. Crumbl's 2026 franchise disclosure listed 1,101 franchised stores at the end of 2025, and new lineups still drop every Sunday. What is true is that some individual stores have closed — and when your neighborhood Crumbl disappears, it can feel like the whole chain is in trouble.
Which Crumbl stores have closed?
Closures happen one store at a time and are decided by the local franchisee. Recent examples reported by local news include:
- Jersey City, NJ — closed January 3, 2026, less than a year after opening.
- Tallahassee, FL — the Thomasville Road store closed after about five years, following an earlier closure near FSU.
- Mountain Brook, AL — the Lane Parke store closed.
Industry reporting has also described a sales slowdown after the brand's 2021–2022 boom, corporate layoffs, and slower expansion. That combination — lots of stores opened quickly, then lower sales per store — is the usual reason a franchise location shuts its doors.
How to check if your Crumbl is still open (30 seconds)
- Open the Crumbl app or the official store locator. If the store isn't listed or won't take orders on a weekday, it's likely closed.
- Search the store on Google Maps. Look for a red "Permanently closed" or "Temporarily closed" label and recent reviews.
- Check the store's Instagram or Facebook. Franchisees usually post closures, remodel dates and holiday hours there first.
- Remember Sundays. Every Crumbl is closed on Sunday, so a dark store on Sunday doesn't mean anything. See our Crumbl hours guide.
If your store closed, the nearest one usually still delivers to you through the Crumbl app, DoorDash or Uber Eats. Our delivery guide explains fees and what travels well.
Crumbl lawsuits, explained
Trademark lawsuits (2022–2023)
In 2022 Crumbl sued two rival cookie chains, Dirty Dough and Crave Cookies, saying their branding and pink packaging were confusingly similar. The case against Crave was dismissed in July 2023, and the dispute with Dirty Dough was settled in late 2023. These were brand fights between companies — they didn't affect what you can order.
Labor and franchise scrutiny
Like many fast-growing franchise systems, Crumbl has faced scrutiny over how franchised stores are run, including a 2022 U.S. Department of Labor review that reported child-labor violations at several franchised locations. If you want primary documents, search the DOL's news releases and the court dockets rather than social media summaries, which often mix up dates and outcomes.
The 2026 leadership change
In May 2026 founders Jason McGowan and Sawyer Hemsley announced they would step back from daily management and recruit a new executive team, while staying on the board. That's a management change, not a sale or a shutdown. Details are on our who owns Crumbl page.
Why the "Crumbl is closing" rumor keeps spreading
- A store closes locally, and a viral post turns it into "Crumbl is closing."
- Sunday closures make stores look shut on the day many people go out.
- Headlines about slower sales get read as "going bankrupt," which hasn't happened.
